Sylvia Thompson

Mrs. Sylvia Thompson, 83, of Albany, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at Joe Ann Burgin Health & Rehab in Cuthbert.

A memorial service honoring her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026, in the chapel of Hall and Hall Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will receive visitors after the service at her grandson Chrisopher’s home, 800 Putney Ave, Putney, GA 31705.

Born October 30, 1942, in Moultrie, she was the daughter of the late William Oliver Carden and Cora Lee Folds Carden. Sylvia was a talented and creative woman with a strong will and a personality all her own. She was never one to mince words and could always be counted on to tell you exactly what she thought.

She worked for many years as a skilled seamstress, a career that showcased her patience, attention to detail, and talent with her hands. Over the years, she was employed by several textile companies, including Coats & Clark, before eventually retiring.

Sylvia also had a special love for crossword puzzles. She not only enjoyed solving them but had a remarkable talent for creating her own. Years ago, some of the crossword puzzles she designed were published for others to enjoy and solve. Whether she was carefully stitching fabric or putting together the perfect crossword clue, Sylvia's creativity was evident in the things she enjoyed throughout her life.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Thompson; grandson, Robert "Robbie" Allen; 5 sisters and 2 brothers.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Tracy Curry and JT of Moss Point, MS; grandchildren, Joshua Webb, Christopher Webb, James Fore (Erica), Lane Curry, and Kristen Drinkard (Frank), great-grandchildren, CJ Webb, Caleb Webb, Carlea Webb, Maddison Harris, Kasien Ezell, and Kenzleigh Drinkard; two siblings, June Johnson of Leesburg, GA and William Carden Jr., of Pahokee, FL; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members and friends.

Hall and Hall Funeral Home has been given the honor to serve Mrs. Thompson’s family.
