Mrs. Ruby Lee Israel, 91, of Albany, peacefully passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2024, at Lee County Health and Rehabilitation.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 15, 2024, at the graveside of Snowridge Cemetery, in Ashburn. Joseph W. Jones will officiate, and the family will visit with friends following the service.
Born on March 26, 1932, in Coolidge, GA, Ruby was the daughter of the late Hezekiah Dowdy and Mattie Lee Leverett Dowdy. She married the love of her life Elmo Taylor Israel on December 10, 1963, and together they owned and operated the 133 Truck Stop on Moultrie Road for many years. They made many cherished memories together until his passing on June 17, 2019. She worked in nursing for many years and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church of Mitchell County. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Cario and member of The Eastern Star. She loved animals and had many throughout the years that she loved and cared for. She also enjoyed gardening, flowers, and deer hunting, but most of all she enjoyed time spent with her beloved family.
Survivors include her children, Patricia Ann Owens, and Steve Owens (Sandy) all of Albany; grandchildren, Michael Bryant of Atlanta, and Cyndi Ragsdale of Leesburg; 2 great-grandchildren, Andrew Ragsdale, and Ashley Cason; 2 great-great-grandchildren, Tucker, and Caroline; 2 sisters, Louise Blackaby, and Darlene Tillman; several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
