Born February 20, 1947, in Moultrie, he was the son of the late John Wesley Matthews and Nellie Louise Woodard Matthews. Ronnie proudly served our country in the United States Army and later attended trade school. He worked as a mechanic for many years and later went to work Civil Service at the Marine Corps Logistics Base where he retired. He was a talented mechanic and known as the neighborhood handyman. He enjoyed fixing things and took pride in helping others. Ronnie could almost always be found piddling in his shop. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He was a faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church in Albany and attended R.E. Brake’s Sunday School class when he was able. A beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, he will be greatly missed by all.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, James Ronnie Matthew Jr. “Sonny,” infant twin boys, and his infant brother, Clarence Neil Matthews.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Laura Barnes and her husband Jimmy of Tifton; two grandchildren, Evan and Chloe Barnes; two brothers, Irvin Matthews and his wife Carol and Larry Matthews and his wife Sheila; sister, Sheila Giles; and his special friend, Jean Daniel.
