GySgt. James David Daniel, USMC (Ret.), 89, of Cordele, peacefully passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2024.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at Lake Blackshear Baptist Church with visitation one hour prior to the service. Rev. Phil Streetman and his son, Mark Daniel, will officiate with interment to follow in the Smoak Cemetery.
Born December 24, 1934, in Lamar, AR, Mr. Daniel was the son of the late Rev. Gorman and Imogene Stumbaugh Daniel. He faithfully served his country in the United States Marine Corps and retired after 23 years of service. Mr. Daniel was an umpire and referee for high school baseball and basketball for several years and was a member of The Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed the outdoors, boating, and fishing on the lake with his family. Through the years he also liked traveling and camping. He was of the Christian faith and will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Daniel was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ann Daniel.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Donaldson Daniel; 6 children, Mark Daniel and Alisa of Cordele, Daniel Daniel and Derinda of Sylvester, Scott Daniel of Broxton, Patrick Daniel and Marina of Milton, Joel Daniel, and Sean Daniel and Elma of Monroe; 6 siblings, Dorothy Davison, June Daniel, Lawrence Daniel, Linda France, Dewey Daniel, and Kay Daniel all of Arkansas; 12 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
