Mr. Dennis Lee VanMatre, 79, of Albany, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at his home.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 20, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Hall & Hall Funeral Home. Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 21, 2024, in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, in Dawson. Rev. Robin Chaplin will officiate, and military honors will be presented.
Born December 16, 1945, in McCook Nebraska, Mr. VanMatre served his country in The United States Navy where he served in the Vietnam War and was medically discharged. He was an outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing, but most of all loved spending time with his grandchildren. He retired from the Marine Corps Logistics Base of Albany and was member of First Baptist Church of Acree.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Chase VanMatre.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Joyce VanMatre; his sons, Richard Lee VanMatre and Stephanie of Sylvester, and Randy Todd VanMatre and Kimberly of Bridgeboro; brother, Kenneth VanMatre and Jutta of Tifton; grandchildren, Colby, Hunter, Cassidy, and Harleigh; great-grandchildren, Lyla, Elsie, Beckham, Tucker, and Lainey; brother’s-in-law, Jerry Kimble and Jim Clanton and Tammy; and sister-in-law, Janet Harris and Ricky.
