Rodman H. Williams

October 1, 1920 — April 4, 2013

Major Rodman H. Williams., USAF, (ret), 92 of Albany, died, April 4, 2013. Born October 1, 1920 in Baltimore, Maryland, Rodman was also known as Dad and Grandpa. In 1944 Rodman married Marye Parkman at Church of the Epiphany in Baltimore, Maryland. Rodman is survived by his children, Claudia Marye Shannahan and husband, Jim; Rodman H. Williams, Lynn Ellen Derengowski, and Jeannie Robinson and husband, Dennis; also his grandchildren, Michael and James Robinson; and Marissa, Natalie, and Stephanie Derengowski. Rodman proudly served as Master Councilor, Order of DeMolay (Masonic youth organization) in 1941. During WWII he joined the US Army Air Corp in 1942, proudly and courageously serving in the 38th Bomb Group, 5th Air Force in Port Moresby, New Guinea flying modified B-25 Mitchells. He served 20 years in the US Air Force as a transportation officer. He then worked in transportation as a civil employee of the US Marine Corps Logistics in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. When the Marine Corps relocated to Georgia, he was responsible for moving personnel and equipment to Albany and was one of the last employees to relocate to Albany. Rodman lived comfortably with his youngest daughter, Jeannie and her husband, Dennis and grandson, Michael, for 15 years until his passing. Wanda Hill also contributed to his care and comfort for the past six years. He enjoyed reading, wood working and building projects with his son-in-law, going to Starbucks and desserts. He enjoyed frequent visits from his daughter, Claudia and Jim (from Michigan) and his son Rodman (from New Jersey). He was kind, gentle and giving; a loving husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather. His family thanks the medical staff at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for their kindness and care of our Dad. At Rodman’s wishes he will be buried next to his wife at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia, PA.
