Daniel Rufus Smith

Mr. Daniel Rufus Smith, 81, of Albany, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Born March 16, 1935 in Albany, Mr. Smith was the son of the late, William H. Smith and Ouida Taylor Smith. He retired from his business, Albany Iron and Metal Company and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially loved spending time with his family and will be greatly missed by all. He was of the Methodist faith. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his son, Daniel “Little Danny” Rufus Smith, Jr. and all of his siblings. Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Charlie Mae Wade Smith; children, Susan S (Ken) Bell of Sylvester, Tammie Heirs of Albany, Lilly (Greg) Sirmons of Worth County and Christopher Swope of Albany; special nephew, Benny Smith; 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. The family will host a memorial service from 1 until 3 p.m., Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 2718 Fleming Rd. Albany, GA 31705. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.hallandhallfuneralhome.com.
